The Ten Rules For Being Human
You will receive a body.
You will be presented with lessons.
There are no mistakes, only lessons.
Lessons are repeated until learned.
Learning does not end.
“There” is no better than “here.”
Others are only mirrors of you.
What you make of your life is up to you.
All the answers lie inside of you.
You will forget all of this at birth.

Hardest Puzzle Question Ever
A hundred prisoners are each locked in a room with three pirates, one of whom will walk the plank in the morning. Each prisoner has 10 bottles of wine, one of which has been poisoned; and each pirate has 12 coins, one of which is counterfeit and weighs either more or less than a genuine coin. In the room is a single switch, which the prisoner may either leave as it is, or flip. Before being led...

Why the cloud cannot obscure the scientific method →
Every so often, someone (generally not a practicing scientist) suggests that it’s time to replace science with something better. The desire often seems to be a product of either an exaggerated sense of the potential of new approaches, or a lack of understanding of what’s actually going on in the world of science.

The Exception
“The exception proves the rule.”
Dimbulbs think: “Your counterexample proves my theory.”
Latin students think “‘Probat’ means ‘tests’: the exception puts the rule to the proof.”
But legal historians know it means “Evidence for an exception is evidence of the existence of a rule in cases not excepted from.”

PokerStars Nordic Freeroll, 6. April 2008
In the money (#220 of 8408) tonight. I don’t care what you say about the quality of the field; it is fun to go deep with that many players anyway. At one point, around the 2000 players mark, I was in the 40ies in chips, but never really got anything after that. I will (probably) never play in the WSOP Main Event, so 8000+ fields are unlikely IRL.

PokerStars Nordic Freeroll, 29. March 2008
In the money (#281) with 6476 players. I got fairly good cards early on, and just started pushing my big stack fairly loosly. I doubled up a few times doing that.
After the first break, I tried to play “normal” and went on a steady decline; I had to go back to pushing to turn a profit again.
Last hand was me pushing all in with AKs, being called by the big stack on the table with QQ....
